During the American Civil War more than 2,000 regiments of infantry, cavalry and artillery mustered to fight in the conflict. Re-discover a regiment very little is known about: the first black regiment in the Union Army, the first to fight against Confederate soldiers and the first to be brigaded with white regiments—the 1st South Carolina Volunteers. Author John Saucer will be presenting his new book about them in Baker Hall on July 11 @ 6 pm.

This program is open to the public. It is free for members and there is a suggested $5 donation for non-members. Seating is first-come, first-served, and is wheelchair accessible. Copies of the book will be available for purchase at the event and can be signed upon request.
