The Amelia Island Museum of History offers several types of events: two monthly educational series, a number of annual fund-raisers and several community-oriented event opportunities, along with other special one-time events.

OUR REGULAR MONTHLY EVENTS

BROWN BAG LUNCH

On the first Wednesday of every month, at noon in Baker Hall, people gather for a free lecture courtesy of the Amelia Island Museum of History. And, yes, bring your own lunch!! Checkered cloth-covered tables are available to sit with friends or meet some new ones. Past topics have included “Life as a Fernandina Harbor Pilot”, “Metal Detecting in Nassau County”, “The U.S. Space Program” and “Historic Haunts”. Admission is free.

3rd ON 3rd

The 3rd Friday of every month is special at the Amelia Island Museum of History. We hold our ‘after hours’ lecture at 6 pm, with snacks and beverages available. Have a seat for an hour and listen to talks as varied as “Florida Before Statehood”, “General Duncan Lamont Clinch and the Seminole Wars”, “The Dark Side of Toys” and “The Fountain of Youth Archeological Park”. Admission is free for Museum Members and $5 for non-members.

SPECIAL EVENTS

HOME HOLIDAY TOUR

Locals, people from across northern Florida, and Tour Groups from afar flock to Fernandina the 1st weekend in December for the Museum’s Annual Holiday Home Tour. This event is the Museum’s largest fundraiser, but also provides the opening of the glorious holiday season on Amelia Island. Their architecture, décor, and decorations will put you right into the holiday mood, and also support a very good cause.

GOLF TOURNAMENT

Golfers love Amelia Island, so why not join us for a good cause, good company and a round of golf? In the Spring the Amelia Island Museum of History Golf Tournament is played on one of the select courses in the area. The Tournament includes a pre-party at the Museum, lunch, a raffle and tons of great prizes. And all proceeds benefit the on-going operations of the Museum, which secures less than half of its operating budget from General Admissions. Check our calendar for date and detailed event information.

SHRIMP FESTIVAL

The Amelia Island Museum of History has been a Shrimp Festival participant for years. Normally scheduled for the first weekend in May, dozens of artists, craftspeople and other vendors fill Centre Street and the side streets for a 3-day celebration of all things shrimp! All food booths are run by local not-for-profits, and the Museum’s home-made Shrimp Gumbo is a sell-out every year. Make sure to find us and grab a bowl of gumbo; you’ll never think about shrimp the same way again (additional hot sauce available for those who like it spicier!).

HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH

Come celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month – September 15 – October 15! Keep an eye out for future events!.

COMMUNITY APPRECIATION DAY

Every summer we set aside one day to welcome everyone to Community Appreciation Day at the Museum. Set up in our parking lot, this free event includes numerous activities and games for children of all ages, demonstrations of crafts or other activities from different time periods, costumed volunteers, and often, visits from the staff of Fort Clinch. Our Interns plan and execute Community Appreciation Day as part of their time with us; it is one of the most challenging and most fun tasks they get to work on! Check our calendar for date and detailed event information.

Graveside Chronicles

Join us on October 14th to explore the past at Bosque Bello Cemetary!

GARDEN TEA PARTIES

Plan to join us for an afternoon of fun at our themed tea parties hosted in our beautiful Volunteer History Garden. Enjoy an entertaining characterized presentation while sipping spiced tea and snacking on scones with jam and a variety of savory finger food items. Our tea parties will be offered quarterly throughout the year, each featuring a different theme. Get into the spirit of the party by dressing according to the theme. Be sure to check our calendar for the date and time of our next fabulous tea.
