Join us at the Nassau County Public Library Fernandina Beach Branch for this Extra Brown Bag Lunch presentation titled “The 14th Colony: The American Revolution’s Best Kept Secret” with Dr. Roger Smith. Newly recovered military and economic information concerning British intentions during the American Revolution reveal that the South was crucial to the needs of both sides in the war long before 1780. In short, the southern colonies did not lie idle for the first five years of the war! Discover what you’ve never been told in history class, and explore how these hidden southern campaigns fundamentally shaped the trajectory of the fight for independence.

Dr. Roger Smith is a published historian with a Master’s Degree in the field of American History, and a Ph.D. in Early American History and Atlantic World Studies from the University of Florida. Dr. Smith also holds a graduate-level Certificate of Scholarship in the field of Museum Studies. An adjunct professor of American history at Flagler College as well as the University of Florida, he speaks nationally on his Revolutionary War research and provided consultation for the AMC television series Turn. He can also be seen on the PBS documentary “Secrets of the Dead: The Secrets of Spanish Florida.”
