Jacksonville has been one of the leading music cities in the South, if not the entire world. There have been more than 100 acts signed to national labels. Many of the most notable of these emerged in the late 1960s and 1970s with a trend that came to be known as “southern rock.” Jacksonville was the main source of this movement. Author of Jacksonville and Roots of Southern Rock, Michael Ray FitzGerald will examine the music and culture of North Florida in this talk.
